So I did it. I actually bought a cheapo Android phone (Simvalley SP-60) with dual-SIM feature, because that’s the single most important feature of a phone for me.
Of course I went immediately to the privacy settings to turn off all kinds of synchronization options. However, it turned out that this wasn’t really needed until after I had entered the details of a (newly created) Google account. Honestly, why do I have to store my contacts on a Google server in order to get them into my phone? Sorry, but this is ridiculous. Having that option may be nice, but being forced to go this route is kind of scary given the market power of Google. So they don’t just want to know just about everything about all kinds of habits through your search terms, the documents you write and the emails you send and receive, now they also want the offline contacts as well.
The only alternative, I hear, is to “root” my phone. This is exactly what I’m going to do once back in Iceland, because I find it an unsettling thought that Google is collecting all this data. I want to be able to edit my contacts offline and to use my phone the way mobile phones used to work, while having a small portable wireless-capable machine available if the need be.
For now I’m back to the Nokia C2-00.

Hmm … mir war so, als ob man Android auch ohne ein Google Konto nutzen kann. Selber kann ich es nicht nachvollziehen, da ich ein gerootetes Handy mit CyanogenMod nutze. Aber eine kurze Google Suche bestätigt mir die Annahme – seit der Android Version 1.5 kann man Android auch ohne ein Google Konto nutzen. Und ohne die Nutzung eine Google Kontos wird auch nichts zu Google synchronisiert. Falls du jetzt schon ein Konto eingegeben hast, musst du das Handy noch mal zurücksetzen(Datenschutzeinstellungen/ Auf Werkszusatnd zurück) und bei der nächsten Einrichtung (nach dem Neustart) einfach kein Konto angeben.
Ich hoffe das klappt so, kann es wie schon gesagt, nicht selber vorher ausprobieren.
Ich nehme an, daß du recht hast. Allerdings bringt mir das nichts, wenn ich die Kontakte nicht anderweitig eingeben kann. Selbst im Nokia kann ich – sehr einfach gehalten – meine Kontakte direkt auf dem Handy verwalten. Das Gerät ist also auch ohne PC nutzbar. Beim Android-Modell welches ich habe (Android 2.1) ist dies nicht der Fall.

hitzi hat recht. Du brauchst kein Googlekonto, wenn du auf den Market und diverse andere Anwendungen verzichten kannst. Und dann wird auch nichts synchronisiert.
Kontakte, speziell Telefonnummern müßte ich dann aber anders eingeben können 😉 … geht aber nicht – oder ist sehr versteckt.
Ich lehne mich jetzt mal weit aus dem Fenster, Olli: Jedes Android-Telefon bietet die Möglichkeit, Kontakte direkt via Telefon einzugeben. Habe ich doch mit deiner Telefonnummer bei mir auch gemacht. Ich musste bloß eine Weile suchen, bis ich wusste, wie ich den Kontakt auf die SIM-Karte kriege, damit er beim nächsten Reset nicht wieder weg ist. 😆
Ich habe die Anleitung deines Telefons nicht im Detail studiert. Aber ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass du einen neuen Kontakt auch ohne Software am Rechner anlegen kannst.
Und bist du übrigens sicher, dass es die Version 2.1 ist? Alle Quellen, die ich fand, sprechen von der 2.2er-Version.

Rooten habe ich bisher mit allen Beschreibungen noch nicht geschafft. Das Problem scheint zu sein, daß der Treiber (auch der von dem Nook) nicht mit dem Gert zusammenarbeitet.
Ich lege das erst einmal ad-acta bis neue Fakten auftauchen.
Vorerst muß ich mich damit begnügen das Telefon unprivilegiert zu benutzen.
