For clarity, it’s about US-American lives – why consider that the Americas (as in plural) are a twin-continent and thus “Americans” are not just US-Americans. Canadians, Mexicans, Brazilians they are all Americans. But let’s fall back to the rhetoric used by the dominant “world power”.
American lives have been risked and wasted most of the time by the US government and its actions or other US “representatives” such as the CIA. However, when American blood gets spilled by some non-American it is a sacrilege. The talk is not about human lives at risk, it’s about “American lives”, so these must be real special. This reminds me of the master race the Nazis were trying to declare and breed in the thousand years between 1933 and 1945. And sure enough the symbols and the rhetoric used in the prevalent US news broadcast, FOX, look and sound akin to what we know from those thousand years. It actually sounds quite fascist. And it proves that humankind will not learn from the most gruesome facets of its past – ever!

PS: Let’s see whether Assange will be extradited to the US for some made-up reason, so perhaps next year we could give another Nobel Peace Prize to a freedom of speech advocate imprisoned in another totalitarian country?!
You and my husband would have great conversations!
He’s a naturalized US citizen, isn’t he? Perhaps that gives him a different angle on these matters.
Some of the developments in the last decade are rather chilling. Let’s see what the next decade will bring.
Get well into the next year 😉
Yes, he is a naturalized citizen and I’m certain you are right that it gives him a different perspective.
Happy New Year!
